Nerida and Matt chose Burnside Church for their ceremony pretty late in the process, but I was delighted when I found out. If you know the Wairarapa, you might have seen this old, rustic chapel on your drive down Lake Ferry road. Much like the old chapel in Riversdale, Burnside is a beautifully simple building, unassuming and happy in itself. The architecture of these little churches dotted around the country seems to say, “Yes, we know we’re not much, but we don’t need to be. It’s not about our appearance, it’s about the people inside.â€
In Burnside Church there’s no power, no lights, no heaters, no air conditioners… just timber and windows. And the beauty of a wedding is that all you need, really, is a bit of shelter from the wind to say your vows and celebrate. And celebrate they did. Nerida and Matt invited all of their loved ones and family members. The church was a cacophony of giggles, bubble blowing, and even clapping (from those too young to be constrained by what adults think they should do). It was perfection. Congrats Nerida and Matt– you guys really know how to wed!
Beautiful; weather was just right for this one.
